For students of any age up to 2nd grade.

Learning Compentencies:
Students will Wiggle their way through phonics with worm word families. Students will create their own worms and apples to share with the class for a fun activity on vowel sounds, letter blends, or beginning and ending sounds.


Students will need:

Scissors

Red and green construction paper

Glue

Green craft sticks (lots of them!)

Markers



Students will Cut out apple shapes from the red construction paper. 

Students will cut a stem and leaf for each apple from the green construction paper. 

Students will glue them to the top of the apples.

Students will make two vertical slits in the middle of the apple that are just large enough for a craft stick to fit through, and spaced widely enough for a few letters.

Students will write a single letter or letter blend between the slits on the apples.

Students will draw a simple face for the worm at one end of each green craft stick. 

Students will write the other letters needed to make words on the craft sticks. 

Students will slide the “worm” through the slits to create words and read.

Students will use the apples for vowel sounds, letter blends, beginning/ending sounds, etc.
